Movie breakdown - Day Shift (horror movie)

Jamie Foxx stars as Dave Franco and Jamie Foxx is the star of "Day Shift", a new movie about vampire hunting. The movie is about a blue collar working dad who wants to provide for his child's happiness. But, his mundane job at the pool in San Fernando Valley serves as a front for hunting and killing Vampires as part of an international Union of vampiric hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

The opening scene of the movie is a bonkers action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire. This leads to a hilarious fight between the two of their characters that is a total blast. I feel like the movie really has fun with this kind of rag-doll physics in its action scenes, making those sequences pop in a way that a lot of the Netflix action movies (or action blockbusters these days) don't.

Day Shift is the kind of movie that's so bad it's good. It is so obvious what they were trying, yet it fails so miserably. It is lacking in acting ability, dialogue, and plot. I still enjoyed it. Maybe it's my obsession with vampire movies, maybe it's just because I like watching bad movies. Either way, I had a good time watching Day Shift. While it isn't a great movie, it's very entertaining. That's all I need from a movie of this quality.

Day Shift was a very mixed movie. One side is that there is lots of action and some fun characters (the brother and Seth), and on the other, the villain was terrible and there were many mediocre people. It seemed like there were some scenes missing that had been cut. Bud's neighbor acts as if they are friends even though she had only 3 minutes screen time before the final scene. It seems that this helps the stronger characters shine more. The movie is enjoyable overall, but there were some things that could have been done better.

Snoop Dogg was almost forgotten about. He's fantastic in Day Shift. The whole movie is worth it because of him. His humor is infectious and he delivers some memorable lines. He is so natural in this role. It's almost as if he was meant Day Shift vampires to do it.
